The one in the shoe
The one in the shoe · May 11, 2019
We were not getting a dog. We had a spreadsheet about not getting a dog. Then Diego’s coworker fostered a litter and sent one photo of the runt asleep in a shoe. I drove forty minutes “just to look.” He fell asleep in my lap in the parking lot, and I called Diego and said we have a dog now. He said which one. I said the one in the shoe.

He cried for exactly eleven minutes in the crate. Then I put the crate on the bed. Then I gave up on that too, and he slept on my neck like a scarf. He still does. He is seventy pounds.
“Just to look” · May 11, 2019
Everyone who has ever had a dog knows what “just to look” means. I had the crate assembled before she was home.
